REVIEW CHOICE DEMONSTRATION

Design Solution for New Regulatory Requirement

Review Choice Demonstration is a regulatory requirement to reduce fraud and ensure patients are receiving only the care that they need. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is piloting this program in a small number of states.

THE CHALLENGE

With only a small number of customers needing the feature during the government pilot, our challenge was to find a lightweight option that would meet the immediate needs of users while outlining a comprehensive solution for future nationwide implementation.

THE OUtcome

The solutions were released ahead of the deadline. Additional functionality was added in the following releases as it was largely accounted for in other initiatives. Customer feedback on the CMS requirements is passed on to the Government Affairs team to hopefully influence the final nationwide ruling.

On very short notice, Jessica organized and ran our team through a Design Sprint. She had a very clear agenda and the exercises that she planned were integral to determining the customers’ root problem, our current gaps, and how to move forward. I was amazed at how quickly we were able to gather the information and form a plan.

THE APPROACH

With a very short turn-around time, I determined a Remote Design Sprint would give the best results. Design Sprint allowed us to uncover the most pressing needs of the customers, envision a long-term solution, confirm with regulatory experts, scope backend requirements, build a prototype, and test with real users within a few days.
